Jonathan Huberdeau’s Monster Week Earns Him NHL’s 1st Star

It’s rare a Florida Panthers get’s some recognition from the NHL, but when you put up 9 points in four games, you force the NHL’s hand who awarded him the 1st Star of the Week. How good was Huby this week? He beat out a guy who had two shutouts. Oh, and he was also a quarter of an inch and a quarter of a second from having two more points last week. Yeah, that’s pretty good.

With the scorching hot week, Huberdeau now has 74 points
(22G & 52A) in 69 games. With 13 games left to play, Huberdeau has set a career high in assists and points. He is 5 goals away from tying his career high and needs 8 points to lock down his first point per game season.

The Barkov and Huberdeau connection was in full effect last week as all but 1 of the goals scored by the two players was assisted by the other. I’m honestly surprised that Barkov and his 9 points weren’t honored as well.

A few years ago it was a concern in the organization that the two would never mesh well. I don’t think anyone has that concern anymore and you could easily argue that two of them should be up there with the best 1-2 scoring combos in the NHL. Extra Huby snacks for the both of them. Sorry, I couldn’t help myself.
