Report Cards: Mark Pysyk

Since arriving to the Florida Panthers in 2016, Mark Pysyk has been the subject of split opinions among Panther fans. His 2018/2019 season was more of the same, confusing fans on whether he’s worth keeping around or not. Pysyk played 2nd/3rd pairing minutes year round (18:16 TOI) and lacked offensive production throughout the season.

By the Numbers:

Goals: 1

Assists: 10

Points: 11

Plus/Minus: -1

CF%: 47.1

Overview: Alright lets face it, Mark Pysyk is anemic when it comes to offensive production. He just doesn’t score, even when he shoots, with his horribly low 1.6% shooting percentage. Even with that being known, he struggles to rack up assists as he lacks the offensive prowess that others have. This being said, he is a defenseman, so its vital to look at his defensive statistics to properly evaluate his performance this season. His Corsi For % at even strength was not ideal (47.1) for a defensive defenseman. He started 52.9% of his time on ice in the neutral or defensive zone, so that might be a reason for his poor C

orsi ratings. Regardless, Pysyk struggled to create scoring chances and wasn’t quite a shutdown force behind his own blue line.

2018/2019 Grade: C-

  1. I done recall seeing anyone -1 at the end of the season. If he was a -1 then he is a keeper. Our defense was horrible
