As one would have expected the Florida Panthers have placed defenceman MacKenzie Weegar on IR after this hit from Montreal Canadiens forward Paul Byron. Byron has received a 3 game suspension for the hit.
To replace the vacant roster spot, the Panthers have recalled defenceman Josh Brown from the Springfield Thunderbirds. Brown was originally drafted by the Panthers in 2013 as the 152nd pick overall pick in the 6th round. Brown, 24 years old, is 6′ 5″, 215 lbs, and is a right handed shot. He’s played in 19 of Springfield’s 40 games this season and has 3 goals and 34 penalty minutes. Brown is known as a tough customer and here is a sample of some of his work:
The Panthers also recently recalled defenceman Ian McCoshen from Springfield after the trade of Alexander Petrovicto Edmonton.
Many are wondering why Jacob MacDonald who performed so well in training camp hasn’t been recalled. My guess, and this is purely a guess is that Brown likely won’t play much if at all, and that the organEYEzation felt it better to have MacDonald stay at Springfield and play, rather than sit on the sidelines.
The Panthers host the Toronto Maple Leafs tomorrow night, looking to snap a seven game losing streak.
