Aleksander “Sasha” Barkov has made his way to South Florida, and he is here to stay- at least that’s what we’re hoping for. Arriving this weekend from Tampere Finland, Barkov seemed comfortable as he stepped onto the ice this morning to join his fellow Panther teammates at their “informal morning skate”, for the very first time. Joining Barkov for this monumental moment was Fleischmann, Kopecky, Shore, Matthias, Crabb, Butler, Weaver, Kulikov, Gudbranson, and Goc. Former Panthers Olli Jokinen, Tomas Vokoun, Radek Dvorak, and Marco Sturm were also in attendance. The large group of NHLers worked on several drills which included passing, shooting, line rushes, tip-ins, stick work, skating, etc., and I must say that Barkov looked hungry, and certainly fit the bill as a player determinded and ready to make the jump to the North American game. It is still unknown whether or not Aleksander “Sasha” Barkov will participate in any of the Rookie Camp games next week at Saveolgoy Iceplex (because of previous shoulder injury), but whether he can or not shouldn’t be a reason for panic as we are still a little over a month away from the start of regular season. But if today’s skate is any indication on how he’s feeling, my guess is he’ll be 100% and ready to show the fans and critics exactly what he’s made of when the puck drops in Dallas on Oct. 3rd.
